Description

The Gallant Men Combat Soldiers & Army Tank Set & Alaskan Polar Set (Marx, 1950s-63). Marx's carded figure sets captured both the cultural landscape of their era and the company's unmatched ability to distill big themes into small, durable play pieces. The Gallant Men set was issued in 1963 and tied directly to the brief Warner Bros. television series of the same name, reflecting the period's appetite for heroic World War II narratives. By contrast, the Alaskan Polar Set represents Marx's broader line of adventure- and exploration-themed toys-an imaginative cold-weather tableau of figures, sleds, animals, and scenic elements designed to spark wide-open, narrative-driven play. Together, these two sets showcase Marx's remarkable range, from licensed contemporary media to evergreen fantasy environments. Both carded sets show heavy wear throughout. The edges exhibit substantial scuffing and dents, and the corners are heavily worn and softened. Cardback surfaces display heavy scuffing, creasing, staining, waviness, and curling consistent with long-term age and handling. Both items remain mint on card. The bubbles show mild scuffing, cracking in some areas, and lifting at various corners. For collectors of Marx, early television tie-ins, or mid-century carded playsets, this pairing represents two distinct facets of the company's legacy: one grounded in 1960s primetime storytelling, the other in the timeless appeal of imaginative worldbuilding. Each offers a vivid snapshot of Marx's ability to turn simple plastic figures into entire worlds of play.
