Description
Stony Division Toy Assault Rifle, Replica M16 (Marx, 1960s). This Stony Division toy assault rifle reflects Marx's 1960s approach to child-scale military role-play, drawing visual inspiration from the contemporary M16 rifle that had become closely associated with U.S. military imagery of the era. Produced as part of Marx's Stony Division line, the piece was designed as a lightweight, non-firing toy intended for dress-up and imaginative play, emphasizing recognizable form and scale over mechanical complexity. Items like this were marketed to align with mid-century adventure and combat themes, when realism in silhouette was considered a primary driver of appeal in youth toy weapons. The cardback shows moderate scuffing and denting along the edges, with corners exhibiting moderate scuffing and softening. The cardback surface displays significant wear, including scuffing, creasing, discoloration, and tearing caused by the original wire ties used to secure the rifle to the packaging. The toy itself appears unused. A representative example of Marx's Stony Division output, this toy assault rifle captures the look and intent of 1960s military-themed play and stands as a period artifact from an era when toy design closely mirrored contemporary real-world equipment.Heritage Auctions provides as much information as possible but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
