Description

Sears Allstate Army Combat Playset with Original Instructions (Marx, 1960s). This Sears Allstate Army Combat Playset was manufactured by Louis Marx & Co. and sold exclusively through Sears, Roebuck & Co. during the early to mid-1960s. The "Allstate" branding was used by Sears for select house-label merchandise, with Marx serving as the producing manufacturer. Offered through Sears' annual Christmas catalogs, these Army Combat sets were large-format military environments built around extensive assortments of figures, vehicles, and battlefield accessories. Period examples commonly included dozens of approximately 54mm plastic soldiers, tanks, jeeps, artillery pieces, buildings, terrain features, fencing, and sandbags. Multiple configurations and stock numbers were issued over the years, reflecting different scale and theme variations within the Sears-exclusive program. This example retains its original instruction sheet. The box shows heavy wear overall, with substantial scuffing, denting, and tearing along the edges and heavy scuffing, crushing, and tearing at the corners. The box surfaces exhibit heavy scuffing, creasing, and moisture damage. The contents appear unused in the open box, with many components still bagged or attached to their original sprues. A substantial Sears-exclusive offering from Marx's peak playset era, this Army Combat set preserves its original presentation and unused contents, representing the scale and scope that defined department-store military playsets of the 1960s.
