Description

Penney's Secret Agent Weapons Set (Reading Deluxe, 1966). Issued circa 1966, this Secret Agent Weapons Set was manufactured by Reading Deluxe, part of the Topper Toys organization, and sold exclusively through Penney's, now J.C. Penney. The boxed set is a large-format, presentation-style assortment built around a coordinated spy and secret agent theme, with all components mounted to a printed backing board. The set includes a trigger pull action machine gun with folding stock, a cap-firing bullet-shooting pistol, a silencer, shoulder holster, handcuffs, and a missile launcher barrel with grenade-style missiles. The illustrated backing board features period artwork depicting trench-coated agents, surveillance scenes, and action vignettes, consistent with Reading Deluxe's mid-1960s graphic style and department-store toy merchandising. The box shows moderate wear overall, including scuffing and denting along the edges and moderate scuffing and crushing at the corners. The box face exhibits moderate scuffing, creasing, and areas of crushing. The contents remain unused and are still attached to the original backing board. A well-preserved example of a department-store exclusive action set, this Penneys Secret Agent Weapons Set captures the scale, presentation, and graphic impact that defined Reading Deluxe's mid-1960s output and remains a visually striking survivor from the era's spy-themed toy production.
