Major Matt Mason Space Station (Mattel, 1966). The Major Matt Mason Space Station, released by Mattel in 1966, is a key playset in the Major Matt Mason toy line, designed to capture the excitement of space exploration during the height of the Space Race. The Space Station serves as a central base for Major Matt Mason and his astronaut team, featuring a modular design with multiple components that could be rearranged to create various configurations, enhancing playability and fostering creativity. The playset includes distinctive elements such as a rotating radar dish, communication consoles, and working airlocks that mimicked a futuristic space base. Its bright colors and detailed features aligned with the retro-futuristic aesthetic of the line.
