Description

King Kong (469-149) Model Kit - Open Box (Aurora, 1964). Aurora's 1964 King Kong kit stands as one of the studio's most memorable tributes to golden-age movie monsters, capturing the raw power and tragic majesty of cinema's most famous giant ape. Released at the height of Aurora's dominance in the character-model market, the kit blended dramatic box art with a sculpt that echoed Kong's towering presence on Skull Island. For collectors, it remains an essential piece of the classic monster canon-an artifact from the era when Aurora transformed iconic film creatures into rite-of-passage builds for a generation of fans. This example shows mild edge wear with scuffing, while the corners display moderate scuffing and areas of rub from handling. The box face surfaces carry moderate scuffing, creasing, and some crushing. The contents remain unused within an open box. The original cellophane is present, though significantly compromised: the lower portion has been torn away, several tape repairs secure what remains of the upper section, and the cello can be slid off entirely, allowing access to the interior. For enthusiasts restoring Aurora's classic monster lineup-or collectors who prize the evocative artwork and cultural footprint of mid-1960s kits-this King Kong release offers a direct line back to the era when monster model building was a national pastime. Its dramatic packaging and unused contents present a rewarding canvas for display or completion, and its place within Aurora's iconic creature roster ensures it will stand out in any focused collection.
