Description
Frankenstein Monster Speaker (Actwell Plastics Corp., 1964). Frankenstein's Monster has lumbered through countless adaptations, but few collectibles capture the mid-1960s monster craze quite like this Frankenstein Monster Speaker, produced in 1964 by Actwell Plastics Corp. under license from Universal. Part novelty and part functional accessory, this painted plastic bust doubled as an auxiliary speaker for radios, phonographs, and early home audio setups. The sculpt draws directly from Glenn Strange's portrayal, translating the familiar flat head, heavy brow, and stitched features into a bold, display-ready form that reflects the era's fascination with classic horror. Released during the height of America's monster boom, fueled by television syndication and an explosion of licensed merchandise, it remains one of the most recognizable Frankenstein-themed novelties of the period. The piece shows moderate, age-appropriate wear, including scattered paint loss and rubs throughout the hair and facial areas, with some surface wear to the painted finish. The cord remains present, and the speaker grille is intact, though 2 screws are missing. A standout relic of the monster craze that blended function with iconography, this Frankenstein speaker still commands attention, even when it's not plugged in.Heritage Auctions provides detailed information when available but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
