Description

Flash Gordon Air Ray Gun with Original Box (The Budson Company, 1948). Launching straight out of the post-war rocket age, this Flash Gordon Air Ray Gun, released by The Budson Company in 1948, is a bold and imaginative example of early science fiction toy design. Constructed from tin and finished in vibrant red, this vintage space blaster channels the sleek, atomic-era style that captured the fascination of a generation enthralled by pulp heroes and space exploration. Measuring approximately 5½ by 10 by 5¼ inches, the Air Ray Gun features a large silver rotating cylinder and an angular body with retro-futuristic contours that look like they came straight from the pages of a comic strip. When the trigger is pulled, the gun would simulate a burst of sci-fi action-its internal mechanism once designed to emit a puff of air, adding to the illusion of cosmic firepower.

The gun displays handling wear throughout, with scratching and scuffing on both the red body and silver cylinder, and still retains its original product sticker near the front-an increasingly rare detail. The trigger appears stuck in place, a common issue with vintage tin mechanisms of this age. It comes accompanied by its original box, which is wrapped in cellophane, helping preserve the overall structure. The box shows edge and corner wear, creasing, dents, and scuffing across the surface, but remains highly presentable with bold period artwork evocative of Flash Gordon's thrilling universe. A classic piece from the early wave of sci-fi toy production, this Air Ray Gun is a standout example of 1940s space-age imagination brought to life.
