Captain Marvel "Lightning" Racing Cars with Original Display Box (Automatic Toy Co, 1948). A Golden Age Captain Marvel "Lightning" Racing Cars counter display box with four tin lithographed wind-up racers and separate keys, produced by Automatic Toy Co. under the Fawcett Publications license. The set includes the full four-car lineup, each measuring approximately 4 inches long, housed in the illustrated display box with a die-cut display top showing Captain Marvel flying above a race-day crowd. With its bright lithography, comic-character branding, and store-display format, this is a wonderful late-1940s crossover of superhero publishing and postwar tin toy spectacle. All four cars and keys are present, with moderate wear from age. The counter display box shows significant wear, including edge and corner wear, creasing, scuffing, compression, and general age-related surface wear. The die-cut box lid is torn and separated into two pieces. These items are untested, and no guarantee can be made regarding their working conditions. A terrific Golden Age Captain Marvel toy display, this set brings Billy Batson's alter ego down from the clouds and straight onto the speedway, where even Shazam apparently had to obey the checkered flag.
