Atom Ray Gun with Box (Hiller, 1946). Embodying the spirit of early sci-fi imagination, the Atom Ray Gun was released by Hiller in 1946, right at the dawn of the Atomic Age when fascination with space, science fiction, and futuristic technology was sweeping across post-war America. This all-metal water pistol, cast in a bold red finish, features a sleek, streamlined design straight out of the pages of pulp magazines and classic sci-fi serials. Engineered for fun, it could fire up to 50 times without reloading, thanks to a generously sized internal water reservoir. This particular example includes its original yellow box, which shows signs of age including edge and corner wear, scratches, scuffing, and a discolored bottom panel with red scuff marks. The top pop-out display panel has been opened along the top, revealing surface tearing on the upper corners and apparent water staining on the inside top flap. Despite the wear, the trigger remains smooth and functional. The Hiller Atom Ray Gun is a highly sought-after collectible, admired for its classic styling, durable build, and its unique place in the evolution of 1940s sci-fi toy design.
