Description

Arnold Format 2900 (Yellow) Wind-Up German Tin Car with Original Box (Arnold, 1950s). Manufactured in the U.S. Zone of Germany during the 1950s, this Arnold Format 2900 wind-up tinplate automobile reflects the company's postwar output of mechanically driven lithographed vehicles. Measuring approximately 10 inches in length, the car is constructed of printed tinplate and finished in yellow, with a stylized two-door coupe body and integrated driver and passenger figures visible through the windows. The model is commonly associated with the Format 2900 designation within Arnold's mid-century catalog and features a wind-up motor for self-propelled operation. The lithographed detailing, molded head design, and chrome-toned trim elements are consistent with German tin toy production of the period. The car is structurally sound, with no visible broken tabs. Surface condition shows moderate scuffing, scratching, oxidation, and areas of paint loss. The metal trim exhibits moderate oxidation. This item is untested, and no guarantee can be made regarding its working condition. The original box shows heavy wear, with substantial scuffing and crushing along the edges and heavy scuffing, crushing, and tearing at the corners. The box faces display significant foxing, scuffing, creasing, crushing, holes, and tearing. A solid boxed example of Arnold's 1950s tin automobile production, this Format 2900 wind-up car retains its mechanical form and period packaging, offering a representative specimen from the postwar German tin toy tradition.
