G.I. Joe Sonic Fighters Viper (v3) AFA 80+ (Hasbro, 1990). Viper entered the 1990 Sonic Fighters subset as part of Series 9, carrying Cobra's frontline infantryman into one of the line's loudest late-run formats. This v3 release reuses the full body tooling from the original 1986 Viper, a mold also used for the 1989 Python Viper v2, giving the standard Cobra trooper another specialized assignment through the Sonic Fighters program. The filecard leans into the danger of the subline itself, noting that Vipers handled field testing on Cobra-built knockoffs of G.I. Joe's sonic weapons, equipment unstable enough that self-destruction was apparently part of the job description. Originating from the collection of former Hasbro executive Derryl DePriest. Graded AFA 80+ NM with subgrades of C80 B85 F85, with only six graded examples listed on the population report. The gear could jam, explode, or leave him stuck fighting hand-to-hand. For Cobra infantry, that still counts as standard issue.

More Information: Derryl DePriest is a longtime toy industry executive and pop culture historian who served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Hasbro from 2001 to 2018, overseeing major initiatives for Star Wars and G.I. During his tenure, Hasbro launched key lines including The Vintage Collection and the 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series, both of which reshaped modern action figure presentation and articulation standards. A lifelong G.I. Joe enthusiast and recognized liaison between Hasbro and the collector community, DePriest later authored Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Archive Edition and has contributed extensively to documenting the history of G.I.
