Description
G.I. Joe Rolling Thunder AFA 80 ** POP 7, 2nd-Highest Grade, Only 7 Higher ** (Hasbro, 1988). The Rolling Thunder arrived in 1988 as one of the great rolling fortresses of G.I. Joe's Series 7 vehicle lineup, measuring over three feet long when fully extended and carrying enough sculpted armament to make the box art look like a full-scale desert assault. The vehicle included Armadillo as its driver and was built around its enormous missile-deployment profile, with twin rocket gantries, multiple gun stations, removable scout vehicle, opening cockpit, and that unmistakable "how did this fit under the Christmas tree?" scale. Designed during the late-1980s arms-race era of A Real American Hero vehicles, the Rolling Thunder remains one of the line's most dramatic answers to the question, "What if a tank decided it needed a longer résumé?" Graded AFA 80 NM, this example ranks as the second-highest grade on the population report, shared with six others, with only seven graded higher. Rolling Thunder is the sort of G.I. Joe vehicle that did not ask for a parking space so much as a staging area. Big, bristling, and gloriously unreasonable, it is pure 1988 Hasbro confidence in boxed form.Heritage Auctions provides detailed information when available but strongly encourages in-person inspection.
