G.I. Joe Rock & Roll (v2) 34-Back AFA 85 (Hasbro, 1989). Rock & Roll returned in Series 8 as a fully reworked update, trading the early-line heavy gunner profile for an all-new sculpt and a pair of oversized mini-gatling guns that pushed his suppressive-fire identity into glorious excess. This 34-Back example is also notable as the only Rock 'N Roll cardback to spell the name "Rock & Roll," and it features the filecard version without the ® symbol, listing serial number 989-1314-MC53. This piece comes from the Derryl DePriest collection. Graded AFA 85 NM+ with subgrades of C85 B85 F85. By 1989, Rock & Roll was no longer just carrying the rhythm section. He had become the whole wall of sound.

More Information: Derryl DePriest is a longtime toy industry executive and pop culture historian who served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Hasbro from 2001 to 2018, overseeing major initiatives for Star Wars and G.I. Joe during a transformative era for collector-focused product. During his tenure, Hasbro launched key lines including The Vintage Collection and the 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series, both of which reshaped modern action figure presentation and articulation standards. A lifelong G.I. Joe enthusiast and recognized liaison between Hasbro and the collector community, DePriest later authored Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Archive Edition and has contributed extensively to documenting the history of G.I.
