Description

G.I. Joe Operation Deep Six Insert Original Cover Art (Hasbro, 1988). This original cover artwork was created for the "Operation Deep Six" insert packed with G.I. Joe vehicles and playsets sold in the United States in late 1988, advertising Hasbro Direct mail-in offers for discontinued store releases and exclusive items. The offers included the Special Mission Drivers set, with Keel-Haul, Ace, Thunder, Lampreys, Strato-Viper, and Motor Viper, along with the G.I. Joe VAMP Mark 2, Cobra Night Landing, G.I. Joe Bomb Disposal, G.I. Joe Weapon Transport, G.I. Joe Super Trooper, G.I. Joe Sky Hawk, Battlefield Accessories Set, and personalized G.I. Joe Dog Tag. The circular sight-view composition shows Firefly aboard the Cobra Night Landing raft, bringing one of the line's great saboteurs into a cold-water pursuit scene built for mail-away imagination. The artwork is mounted with production notations, labels, tape, and overlay material, with visible handling wear, toning, edge wear, and surface marks consistent with production use and storage. The reverse shows the Bainbridge Board backing. This example originates from the Derryl DePriest collection. Before online exclusives and convention drops, this was how Hasbro made the hunt feel classified: a tiny order form, a painted ambush at sea, and Firefly waiting in the crosshairs.

More Information: Derryl DePriest is a longtime toy industry executive and pop culture historian who served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Hasbro from 2001 to 2018, overseeing major initiatives for Star Wars and G.I. Joe during a transformative era for collector-focused product. During his tenure, Hasbro launched key lines including The Vintage Collection and the 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series, both of which reshaped modern action figure presentation and articulation standards. A lifelong G.I. Joe enthusiast and recognized liaison between Hasbro and the collector community, DePriest later authored Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Archive Edition and has contributed extensively to documenting the history of G.I. Joe. Items offered from his collection reflect the perspective of an executive who helped guide some of the most influential collector-driven brands of the modern era.
