Description

G.I. Joe Night-Viper Russian Release AFA Y85 ** POP 3, Highest Grade ** (Funskool, 1992). Introduced in 1989 as Cobra's elite nocturnal assault trooper, the Night-Viper brought a more specialized and intimidating presence to the Cobra ranks, outfitted for nighttime combat with advanced optics and heavy battlefield gear. This Russian-market release, produced by Funskool, represents one of the more unusual international chapters in the G.I. Joe line, adapting classic A Real American Hero molds for distribution in former Soviet territories during the late 1990s. While closely based on the original Hasbro release, Russian Funskool figures are distinguished by their region-specific packaging, altered color palettes, and production variations, giving them a distinct identity within the broader world of international G.I. Joe collecting. The Night-Viper remains one of the stronger entries in the Russian Funskool lineup, retaining the aggressive visual character that made the original figure popular with Cobra army builders. Graded AFA 85 Y-NM+ with subgrades of C85 B80 F85, this example ranks among the highest graded on the population report, which it shares with only two others. Russian Funskool releases occupy a strange and fascinating corner of the G.I. Joe world, Cold War villains exported back into former Soviet markets with just enough differences to keep variant hunters spending their rubles.
