Description
G.I. Joe Moray with Lamprey (Sgt. Slaughter Offer) AFA 80+ ** POP 4, 3rd Highest Grade, Only 4 Higher ** (Hasbro, 1986). The Moray Hydrofoil was introduced in 1985 as part of the Series 4 lineup and immediately became one of Cobra's most impressive watercraft. Its sleek, heavily armed design allowed Cobra forces to dominate rivers and coastlines with speed and firepower, making it a standout among mid-1980s vehicles. Outfitted with dual missile launchers, deck guns, torpedoes, and a swiveling rear turret, the Moray packed an arsenal that made it one of the most play-rich offerings of the line. The set came crewed by Cobra's Lampreys-specialized Eels troopers trained in maritime assault and Cobra's counterpart to elite naval units. This particular version carries the Sgt. Slaughter promotional offer printed on the packaging, a variation that ties the vehicle to one of the decade's most memorable cross-promotions.Graded AFA 80+ NM, this piece is recorded as one of only four at this level, with just four known in higher grade. The combination of the Moray's striking design, its feature-loaded build, the introduction of the Lampreys, and the contemporary promotional packaging variation make this vehicle an evocative reminder of the era's blend of imagination and marketing power. High-grade examples remain prized additions to serious collections, capturing a moment when Cobra's reach extended from land to sea with unmistakable style.
