Description
G.I. Joe Mega Marines Mega-Viper AFA 70 ** POP 3, 2nd-Highest Grade, Only 2 Higher ** (Hasbro, 1993). Mega-Vipers were Cobra's answer to the obvious problem of unleashing Mega-Monsters; someone still had to point the nightmare in the right direction. Released in Series 12 as part of the 1993 Mega Marines subset, these monster trainers and bio-military technicians were built around the idea that getting the creatures to fight was easy, but surviving beside them required nerve, training, and a very questionable career path. The figure includes the subline's moldable Bio-Armor compound, a Play-Doh-style material that could be shaped onto the figure using the included armor mold. Originating from the collection of former Hasbro executive Derryl DePriest. Graded AFA 70 NM with subgrades of C75 B80 F90, this example ranks as the second-highest grade on the population report, shared with two others, with only two graded higher. Mega-Vipers yell "feeding time" and call that strategy. When your backup is a Cobra Mega-Monster, subtle command techniques are probably wasted.More Information: Derryl DePriest is a longtime toy industry executive and pop culture historian who served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Hasbro from 2001 to 2018, overseeing major initiatives for Star Wars and G.I. Joe during a transformative era for collector-focused product. During his tenure, Hasbro launched key lines including The Vintage Collection and the 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series, both of which reshaped modern action figure presentation and articulation standards. A lifelong G.I. Joe enthusiast and recognized liaison between Hasbro and the collector community, DePriest later authored Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Archive Edition and has contributed extensively to documenting the history of G.I. Joe. Items offered from his collection reflect the perspective of an executive who helped guide some of the most influential collector-driven brands of the modern era.
