Description

G.I. Joe Crystal Ball 34-Back with Super Trooper Offer AFA 75 ** Only 2 Graded Examples ** (Hasbro, 1988). Crystal Ball sits in one of the strangest corners of Cobra, a hypnotist and interrogator built around folklore, suggestion, and the unnerving idea that he may know what you are thinking before you say it. First released as part of Series 6 in 1987, this later 1988 carded example features the Super Trooper mail-away offer and represents his second year of availability. Long associated in collector lore with Stephen King and his son Owen, whose name also appears in the line through Sneak Peek's file name, Crystal Ball was released in only this original version. Originating from the collection of former Hasbro executive Derryl DePriest. Graded AFA 75 EX+/NM with subgrades of C75 B80 F85, with only two examples on the population report. Cobra had plenty of soldiers, saboteurs, and madmen, but only Crystal Ball could make a bad idea feel like your own. Add him before he talks you into it anyway.

More Information: Derryl DePriest is a longtime toy industry executive and pop culture historian who served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Hasbro from 2001 to 2018, overseeing major initiatives for Star Wars and G.I. Joe during a transformative era for collector-focused product. During his tenure, Hasbro launched key lines including The Vintage Collection and the 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series, both of which reshaped modern action figure presentation and articulation standards. A lifelong G.I. Joe enthusiast and recognized liaison between Hasbro and the collector community, DePriest later authored Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Archive Edition and has contributed extensively to documenting the history of G.I. Joe. Items offered from his collection reflect the perspective of an executive who helped guide some of the most influential collector-driven brands of the modern era.
