Description

DC Batman Ceramicware Wear Lot of 7 (Westfield/Salem, 1966). A vibrant pair of mid-1960s Batman ceramic collections produced at the height of the original TV-inspired Batmania craze. The first is a Westfield milk glass mug featuring a bold black line portrait of Batman. Produced in 1966 under license from National Periodical Publications, the heavy white glass construction and clean minimalist design reflect Westfield's signature "Heat-Proof" kitchenware line, distributed through U.S. department and variety stores. Complementing it is a six-piece 1966 Salem ceramic set, all bearing the same full-color image of Batman and Robin racing into action beneath the classic logo. The group includes a mug, ashtray, two bowls, and two plates-each marked "Salem Ovenproof 66" on the base. Salem's Batman line was among the earliest officially licensed DC Comics dishware, celebrated for its durability and the crisp, animated styling that mirrored the Silver Age aesthetic. Together, these pieces showcase how Batman mania infiltrated every corner of mid-century pop culture-from breakfast tables to collectible shelves. Rarely found in such well-preserved form, this duo of 1966 ceramic lines stands as a charming and nostalgic testament to Gotham's golden age of licensed design.
