DC Batman Balloons 20-Piece Set (Blue Bird, 1966). A scarce survivor from the 1966 Batman merchandising wave, this 20-piece balloon set was produced by The National Latex Products Company of Ashland, Ohio, under their "Blue Bird" brand. Intended as a short-lived novelty item, the set features printed imagery of Batman, Robin, the Batmobile, the Batplane, the Penguin, and the Joker, presented in a colorful window display package that reflects the era's bold graphic style and merchandising boom surrounding the series. Examples of this type are rarely encountered due to the inherently unstable nature of latex, and the present set reflects that reality. The balloons show advanced deterioration, with visible melting, drying, and flaking. The packaging shows wear throughout, with the adhesive beginning to fail along the bottom left corner, causing separation. A rare holdover from the 1966 Batman boom, the kind of item that was never meant to last, and seldom does.
