Description
G.I. Joe Flash (Strait-Arm) Hand-Painted Concept Prototype (Hasbro, 1997). Created during the late-1990s G.I. Joe revival period, this hand-painted Flash concept figure was possibly developed for the proposed Star & Stripes boxed set explored during the 1997 relaunch era. Utilizing a straight-arm figure format, the piece preserves an early stage of concept development tied to a project that looked back to the earliest years of A Real American Hero. From the collection of Derryl DePriest and accompanied by a corresponding COA. The figure features an olive green color scheme with black pads, gloves, and hair, documenting an alternate visual direction considered during the development process. Had the Star & Stripes concept moved forward with straight-arm figures, it would have represented one of the clearest callbacks to the original 1982 lineup attempted during the relaunch period.More Information: Derryl DePriest is a longtime toy industry executive and pop culture historian who served as Vice President of Global Brand Management at Hasbro from 2001 to 2018, overseeing major initiatives for Star Wars and G.I. Joe during a transformative era for collector-focused product. During his tenure, Hasbro launched key lines including The Vintage Collection and the 6-inch Star Wars: The Black Series, both of which reshaped modern action figure presentation and articulation standards. A lifelong G.I. Joe enthusiast and recognized liaison between Hasbro and the collector community, DePriest later authored Star Wars: The Vintage Collection Archive Edition and has contributed extensively to documenting the history of G.I. Joe. Items offered from his collection reflect the perspective of an executive who helped guide some of the most influential collector-driven brands of the modern era.
