Doug Norwine Joins Heritage Staff!
Accomplished Sax Player becomes Director of Music and Entertainment Memorabilia
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries & Auctioneers (HGA) is proud to announce the addition of Doug Norwine as Director of Music and Entertainment Memorabilia.
"This is an exciting new step for me," said Norwine. "I've been dealing and collecting in autographs and pop culture memorabilia for a long time as a hobby, and now I'm thrilled to be taking the big step to turn that hobby into a career. I'm excited that Heritage has given me this great opportunity."
As a ten-year-old boy, Doug became fascinated with collecting a wide range of autographs and memorabilia. His collection now contains over fifty thousand different autographs and a vast amount of important pieces of music, film, movie, and historical memorabilia. Over the years, Doug has been asked to help authenticate autographs and memorabilia, and he has written articles for magazines including The Autograph Collector and Fangoria. Other writing contributions include the Magic-Image Film Series book, The Wolfman, in which he wrote a definitive chapter on Jack P. Pierce, the Universal Studios makeup genius who created the look of Frankenstein's Monster, The Wolfman, Count Dracula, and almost all the other classic monsters from the "Golden Age of Horror". Doug has also been sought after to contribute research materials, information, and personal knowledge by the authors of many film books published by McFarland Press.
Doug's musical credits are numerous, and will certainly be familiar to anyone tuned into the American popular culture landscape. Perhaps his most popular credit is that of the baritone sax behind Lisa Simpson and her mentor, "Bleeding Gums" Murphy on the FOX hit series, The Simpsons (The Simpson's Sing The Blues and The Simpson's Yellow Album feature Doug's music). A busy studio musician in Los Angeles for the past twenty-two years, Norwine has been featured on such television shows as Roseanne, Full House, Seinfeld, Mad About You, Rugrats, Suddenly Susan, The Tonight Show, Family Ties, Will and Grace, West Wing, General Hospital, Frasier, and many more. Doug has also been a staff musician for major motion-picture companies including Touchstone, Universal, Warner Bros, Fox, Paramount, and Sony. Doug's movie credits include JFK, True Lies, Ten Things I Hate About You and Fright Night.
An active member of American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP), Doug has been a soloist on numerous recordings with such artists as Chaka Khan, Melissa Manchester, The Four Tops, Ray Charles, Maureen McGovern, and Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons. In addition to his studio work, Doug has performed and toured with many famous artists such as Frank Sinatra, Paul McCartney, Bette Midler, Tony Bennett and Harry Connick, Jr.
