Description

Buddy Ebsen's Personal Script of The Return of the Beverly Hillbillies Feature Film Script. In 1981, ten years after The Beverly Hillbillies wrapped up its wildly successful TV run, the characters made a comeback in a TV movie written by the series' creator Paul Henning. Buddy Ebsen returned as Jed, as did Donna Douglas as Elly and Nancy Kulp as Jane Hathaway. Sadly, Irene Ryan ("Granny") and Raymond Bailey ("Mr. Drysdale") had passed away during the intervening years; Ray Young appeared as Jethro, replacing Max Baer Jr. (who refused to reprise his role), and Imogene Coca appeared as Granny's "Maw." This is Buddy Ebsen's personal copy of the script, bearing the original title The Beverly Hillbillies: Solving the Energy Crisis, marked "Revised" and dated April 8, 1981. Ebsen signed the script and made extensive annotations (you can even see, written in his own hand, Jed Clampett's favorite expression, "Welll doggies!"). The script includes 15 pages of call sheets detailing the 18-day shoot, complete with documentation of work at the Los Angeles Zoo's Alligator Pond, Hippo Pond, and Gorilla Enclosure. The script is approximately 115 pages and is a real curio, the story complete with a movie-producing chimp and a wedding for Jane Hathaway with music by Earl Scruggs (Lester Flatt had died in 1979). In Excellent condition. This is the only time Buddy's personal Beverly Hillbillies scripts will be made available to his fans, with none held in reserve. From the Buddy Ebsen Estate.
