Heritage Strikes Gold!
Imperial Gold Record Collection to be Offered in Upcoming Auction.
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers (HGA) will offer a collection of 25 Imperial Gold Records in their upcoming Music and Entertainment Memorabilia sale, to be held September 30 & October 1, 2004 in their Dallas, TX offices.
"Imperial, one of the most important and prestigious labels of the 1950s and 60s, produced these awards to memorialize sales of 1,000,000 albums," said HGA Chief Cataloger Jim Steele. "It was their custom to make only two of each: one for the artist and one for themselves. This collection, which comes from the archives of Imperial Records founder Lew Chudd, includes 16 awards presented to Fats Domino, including the gold record for his classic hit, 'Blueberry Hill', 7 Ricky Nelson gold records, including the award for 'Travelin' Man', and three gold record awards to cult Country yodeler, Slim Whitman, including his signature hit 'Indian Love Call'."
Also included in the sale is an extremely rare Platinum Record, awarded to Fats Domino for cumulative career sales of 25,000,000 albums as of September 1, 1957. The album can be viewed here.
To round out the Imperial Archive finds, the original art used for the covers of two early 1960s albums by famed Rock n' Roll drummer Sandy Nelson is being offered. The albums, "Let There Be Drums" and "Drums Are My Beat" were Top 30 smashes in 1962.
