Heritage to Hold Nudie Sale!
Costumes by World-Famous Designer to be Offered at Auction.
Dallas, Texas: Heritage Galleries and Auctioneers (HGA) will offer a collection of outfits by world-famous costume designer Nudie Cohn in their upcoming Music and Entertainment Memorabilia Sale to be held September 23, 2004 in their offices in Dallas, Texas.
"Nudie Cohn was the 'Bill Blass of Bluegrass' and the 'Halston of Honky-Tonk'," said Doug Norwine, HGA's Director of Music and Entertainment Auctions. "Best known as the costumer who created Elvis' 24 karat gold suit, Cohn was the first designer to put rhinestones on clothing. He even put rhinestones on his Cadillac! In constant demand right up until the day of his death in 1984, Nudie Cohn was a legend, outfitting an incredible roster of stars, including Jimi Hendrix, Janis Joplin, Ronald Reagan, John Wayne, John Lennon, Cher, Elton John and The Rolling Stones."
"Of course, the most sought-after Nudie creations are the ones he did for the country music stars. Often kept by the performer the outfit was created for, these pieces are rarely offered for sale. We were fortunate to obtain this collection directly from the Country Music Wax Museum in Nashville, so the provenance is impeccable."
Offered in the upcoming auctions are Nudie creations worn by such stars as George Jones, Tex Ritter, Merle Travis, Webb Pierce, Carl Smith, and Hawkshaw Hawkins, among others.
