HALF-A-YEAR BEFORE THEIR FIRST AMERICAN VISIT

The Rolling Stones 1964 Hastings, U.K. Concert Poster. An original pre-show British concert poster for The Rolling Stones performing at the Pier Ballroom in Hastings, England on Saturday night, January 18, 1964. This red, white & blue early gem found the Stones headlining over the Four Aces. In typical hyperbolic fashion, the poster calls them both "Top T.V. and recording all star groups." Well, sort of. The Stones had nicked the singles chart in England with "Come On" and "I Wanna Be Your Man" in 1963, but would finally break through in February with their first big hit, "Not Fade Away." Meanwhile their first long-player on Decca would come out three months after this show. So they were indeed... incubating.

A simply marvelous and rare early poster (we've never seen another) for the group that would someday become the world's greatest rock 'n' roll band. This first-ever Heritage offering measures 19" x 29 1/2" and grades to restored Very Good condition. Repair work by Chameleon Restoration. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Chameleon Restoration needed to completely overhaul this rare vintage piece, which was once wheat-pasted up in public on top of several older concert posters, all sticking together with glue. That practice continues to this day at locations like construction sites. It was a huge task but as you can see, the end result is heartening. The resulting poster has slightly uneven dimensions (just by a half-inch or less) and a very rough texture to it, feeling almost like parchment paper. But it's the Real McCoy from the dawn of the Rolling Stones' illustrious career.
