Braveheart (Paramount, 1995), Scottish Highlander Hero Wooden Flail and Action Striking-Head. Original pair of hero and action flails from the beloved 1995 epic war drama Braveheart, consisting of (1) wooden hero flail, comprised of 2- wooden sections connected by riveted and welded metal loops to create a medieval flail, with longer handle portion measuring 33.25" and striking-head measuring 14" long and 1.75" at its widest, with studio-distressed dark-stained wood and metal components to appear well-worn and crudely-made, and (1) action striking-head prop constructed of dense rubber and expertly studio-painted brown and silver to mimic the wooden version, including intricate detailing to resemble woodgrain patterns and welding notches, to have been used in action filming sequences, measuring 14.25" x 1.5". A flail similar to this one can be seen wielded by William Wallace (Mel Gibson) to avenge his wife Murron's (Catherine McCormick) murder, when he pretends to surrender before slaughtering an English garrison. Items exhibiting expected signs of production use and wear including studio-distressing as previously mentioned as well as oxidation to the metal components from exposure over time and scuffs from use throughout both items.
