Description
Jerry Wald 1948 Irving G. Thalberg Award Trophy for "High Quality of Production Achievement" (1948). Vintage original Thalberg Award trophy consisting of a cast brass bust of Thalberg set atop an onyx black, tiered pedestal base with engraved 2.5" x 2" brass plaque affixed reading, "Academy of Motion Picture Arts and SciencesIrving G. Thalberg Award to Jerry Wald for the Most Consistent High Quality of Production Achievement."
The Irving G. Thalberg Memorial Award is awarded periodically by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences at the Governors Awards ceremonies to "creative producers, whose bodies of work reflect a consistently high quality of motion picture production." The award is named for legendary young head of the Production Division of Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer. While the trophy is a bust of Thalberg rather than the familiar Oscar statuette, it is still counted as an "honorary Oscar."
The award was established in 1937 and was first presented at the 10th Academy Awards, in March 1938. A rare award, as there have only been 39 recipients to date. Retaining vintage felt bottom. The 4" x 9.25" x 2.75" statue exhibits expected age and patina with the engraved plaque very faint but legible. In vintage Very Good to Fine condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.
