Description

Batman Mexican Folk-Art Marionettes, Unlicensed Figures, & 1966 Television Show Promotional Prints (various, 1966-90s). Spanning camp television, international cinema, folk-art bootlegs, and street-level pop culture, this eclectic Batman ephemera lot captures the astonishing breadth of the Dark Knight's global reach during the mid-to-late 20th century. Anchoring the group are seven paper-based collectibles tied to the 1966 television series and feature film, including a dramatic photo print of Batman wielding his Bat-Bullhorn, two reprinted serial lobby cards from The New Adventures of Batman and Robin chapters "Target - Robin!" and "Lured by Radium," and a colorful imported lobby card for Batman y Robin Llegaron los Superhéroes, celebrating the Adam West and Burt Ward era in bold, international style. Completing the paper selection are two matching limited edition lithographs from the John Maioriello Collection, Batman's Scrapbook and a portrait-style Batman composition, each numbered 135/500 and accompanied by an official JD Store Equipment Inc. letter referencing the Maioriello prints, offering context and provenance for the pair. The lot's dimensional pieces push further into Batman's unofficial and international afterlife, beginning with two distinct, hand-crafted marionettes produced in Mexico. Each presents a unique folk-art interpretation of the character, constructed from painted resin heads, wooden bodies and feet, fabric clothing, and traditional string controls with wooden crossbars. One example bears a "Hecho en Mexico" stamp on the foot, while the other is adorned with a vintage "I Am a Batman Fan" pin, underscoring the homemade, deeply personal nature of these bootleg creations. Rounding out the grouping is a trio of unlicensed Mexican Batman collectibles, including a blow-molded Robin figure sealed in a bag, a Kenner-inspired Batman with motorcycle presented on illustrated card art referencing the 1989 film aesthetic, and a carded Batman and Joker pairing with accessories, all showcasing original, unauthorized artwork that reflects how Gotham's mythology was reimagined beyond official licensing channels. Condition across the lot reflects consistent handling and age-related wear. The paper items show edge and corner wear with bends, creasing, surface scratching, and scuffing, with the imported lobby card bearing blue marker writing on the reverse. The marionettes exhibit paint rub and loss to the resin heads and hands, fabric wear including fraying, staining, and discoloration, and wear to the wooden control arms and feet. The blow-molded Robin shows paint loss and has torn through the bag at the feet, while the remaining carded and bagged figures appear unused, with paint wear and tears to the packaging. Together, these eleven pieces form a vivid, unfiltered snapshot of Batman's cultural saturation, where television camp, cinematic reinvention, and grassroots bootlegging all coexist.
