Description

Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), The Samaritan Gun Concept Sketch Original Art. An early concept sketch of the Samaritan reveals its exaggerated size and intricate design, reflecting Hellboy's (Ron Perlman) larger-than-life presence. Built by the Bureau for Paranormal Research and Defense, this massive revolver fires specialized bullets crafted to battle monsters, blending mechanical ingenuity with supernatural purpose in every line and contour. According to del Toro, TyRuben Ellingson created the final design for the Samaritan, though this particular schematic is unsigned. Drafted in blue pencil on paper with an image area of 9.5" x 15", this piece has been taped at the top and bottom to a larger sheet of artist's paper. It exhibits early pencil sketch marks that reflect the artist's process, along with additional creasing at the top right and left corners and a 1.5" tear at the top left. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.

"Three steps were needed to create The Samaritan: first step is the blue pencil dimensional sketch - to scale (yes, it's a big hammer of a gun!), second is an alcohol marker textural, and finally, the hero was sent to WETA to fabricate in NZ. BTW, there has only been one (1) hero Samaritan - we never did more heroes for the two movies, only stunt replicas." From the personal collection of Guillermo del Toro.
