Description

Linda Koast, "Hello Ball", Acrylic on Canvas Painting (ca. 2000s). Original acrylic on canvas painting entitled, "Hello Ball", depicting Ralph Kramden (Jackie Gleason) and Ed Norton (Art Carney) from The Honeymooners (CBS TV, 1955-1956) standing in Kramden's apartment while practicing their golf putts with an apple. The scene is taken from the early Season 1 Episode, "The Golfer", in which Kramden finds himself needing to impress the boss by playing a round of golf, despite not knowing how to play the game. As visible from the painting, his ability to look the part was easier than his ability to play it. The painting captures essential details of the show such as the kitchen setting and the comedic, playful, and often bickering relationship between Kramden and Norton. In real life, Gleason was an avid golfer who played rounds with celebrities and heads of state including Richard Nixon, and who started his own tournament on the PGA circuit in the 1970s. Painting is executed in acrylic to stretched canvas, measuring 39.75" x 29.75" and signed in black to lower right corner, "KOAST". Lot is also accompanied by a 14.5" x 10.5" limited-edition print of the same image, numbered 677/5000 and signed by the artist in pencil, housed in a 20.25" x 16.5" black frame. Linda Koast is an American self-taught artist known for capturing the American spirit by depicting scenes from beloved television shows from the 1950s and '60s. Presents well with minor noticeable blemishes. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
