Description

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles Donatello Black Belt Storage Shell with Red Accessories AFA ** POP 1, 2nd Highest Grade, Only 4 Higher ** (Playmates, 1994). The Storage Shell sub-line, introduced in 1990, gave the Turtles a fresh twist with hinged shells that opened to store their weapons-a clever design that quickly became one of the most popular concepts in the Playmates run. Donatello, the team's tech wizard, was among the earliest figures to receive the treatment, and the Storage Shell series remained a staple variation across the line. This 1994 release, offered on the reissue cardback (85-back), is distinguished by its black belt & red accessory set, a short-run production detail that adds significant scarcity.

Graded AFA 80+ NM with subgrades of C80 B80 F85, this example is the sole copy documented at its level, ranked as the second-highest graded on the Population Report with only four recorded higher. That status underscores just how rare it is to find Donatello's Storage Shell release in such preserved condition with the red accessory variant intact. For collectors, Donatello has always embodied the brains of the operation-the inventor, the strategist, the one tinkering in the lair while the others charged into battle. Coupled with the quirky Storage Shell feature and rare accessory color, this figure captures both the creativity of Playmates' design team and the enduring charm of the franchise's most cerebral Turtle. High-grade, variant, and culturally resonant, this piece is a standout of the 1994 line and a cornerstone for serious TMNT collections. Missing out on this piece could cause some serious shell-shock.
