Description

The Rolling Stones Signed Oxford University Ball Program and Performance Contract (1964). Including (1) vintage original UK program for Oxford University's Magdalen College Commemoration Ball, which took place on June 22, 1964. Measuring 4" x 8", the card front cover signed by Charlie Watts ("Love from") and Freddie Garrity, the card back cover signed in various inks by Brian Jones, Mick Jagger, Keith Richards, Bill Wyman, and again by Charlie Watts. The 8-page program contains a map of the site, dinner menu, and set times, with the Stones playing three times: 10.50pm, 12.15am, and 3.20am; together with (1) 1-page single-sided performance contract on pink 'Ajax Entertainments' letterheaded paper, for the Rolling to perform on these dates, signed by the event organizers. With the booking made well in advance in July 1963, the Stones were to be paid only 100 pounds for three appearances that night. Other acts include Freddie and the Dreamers, Ian Stewart and his Orchestra, and John Mayall and the Blues Breakers. The Stones only played two of the three scheduled shows - understandable considering they had just concluded their U.S. Tour and had flown back from New York earlier that day! Provenance: (Contract) Christie's London, April 4, 2007, Lot 71 (part). Program exhibits toning and smudging to the card covers, some staining including around the staples and paper folds. Contract page exhibits fold wear, some fold separation, edge toning and top right corner missing, with 'Club Noreik' snipe applied to upper section. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
