Jaws (Universal, 1975) and Jaws 2 (Universal, 1978), Pair of Scripts. Vintage original pair of scripts from the first and second Jaws films including (1) 112-page (as paginated) script for Jaws by Peter Benchley, studio-wrapped and dated February 11, 1974, in gray Universal Studios covers with graphics and titles on the fly page and production numbered "No. 00236" on mint-green mimeograph papers and with handwritten cast notations on the inside title page in pencil reading, "Roy Scheider / Robert Shaw / Richard Dreyfuss / Lorraine Gray / Murray Hamilton". The dating of the script and timing with casting of the film (which did not have key roles filled until nine days before shooting began in May 1974) indicates these pencil notations were made later, perhaps in conjunction with file copy record keeping at the studio. Also includes (1) 116-page (as paginated) Revised Final Draft Screenplay for Jaws 2 (styled as Jaws II) by Howard Sackler and Dorothy Tristan, in lemon-yellow studio-wraps and dated April 19, 1977, production numbered "02102" and printed on mint-green pages. Though Jaws was an instant critical and commercial success that would revolutionize studio filmmaking and essentially create the so-called Summer Blockbuster genre, production on the sequel was deeply troubled. This draft, written by Howard Sackler and director John Hancock's wife, Dorothy Tristan, encompasses one of the last versions written before production began and notable issues emerged that resulted in production stoppages and the releasing of Hancock as director barely one month into production. Items exhibit expected signs of age and handling, including foxing and edgewear to the extremities and some bumped corners to the studio wraps. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
