King Kong (RKO, 1933), Complete Original Pressbook with Herald and Press Materials from the Personal Collection of RKO's Head of Publicity. Vintage original complete pressbook consisting of 18-pages (as paginated) measuring 12" x 32" closed and 24" x 32" unfolded, featuring the iconic "Style A" upright six sheet in luminous color printed to front cover and 24 sheet design to back cover. With interior pages offering a wide range of promotional materials including Kong-themed crossword puzzles, advertising slogans, press releases, review excerpts, and a multi-page spread of advertisements for the entire range of poster art made for the film, including the original 4" x 7" herald still affixed. Also included in this lot are (6) vintage original single-page press materials, likely distributed by RKO publicity department personnel to movie theaters in advance of the film's release, including (5) 11" x 16" pulp pages printed with excerpted trade publication reviews from Hollywood Reporter, Variety, and the Los Angeles Herald, and (1) 9" x 12" sheet for a notice of revised crew credits for the picture. Pressbook exhibits age and handling including edgewear and corner bumps including along the spine, as well as 2-.5" tears on the back cover. Several interior pages constructed of pulp paper appear brittle with age. Color remains bright throughout. Supplemental materials exhibit signs of age and wear, including brittle paper with foxing, chips, crease lines, and edgewear. Also included is the original manila string-tie transmittal/storage envelope handwritten "King Kong" on the front. Original pressbooks for King Kong rarely appear at auction, with only a few complete versions having been offered by Heritage previously. All materials originally from the property of S. Barret McCormick, RKO Director of Publicity and key designer of the poster art for the film. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
