Description

BG-80 Cream (Eric Clapton) 1967 Fillmore Auditorium Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-printing San Francisco concert poster for British supergroup Cream, the Electric Flag and Gary Burton playing at the Fillmore Auditorium on Tuesday thru Sunday nights, August 29 - September 3, 1967. This was still the young, innocent version of Eric Clapton, Jack Bruce and Ginger Baker, touring off their debut album Fresh Cream. Designed by Jim Blashfield and known as BG-80 in the Bill Graham numbered series, this poster was graded a cream-of-the-crop 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company). Measures 14" x 21". COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: The Electric Flag was the brainchild of guitarist extraordinaire Mike Bloomfield. The soul-rock band was formed in 1967, initially called the American Music Band and then a combination of both names; finally, The Electric Flag was decided upon. Besides Bloomfield, the group consisted of keyboardist Barry Goldberg, drummer Buddy Miles, vocalist Nick Gravenites and bassist Harvey Brooks. Notice the extra-long billing their name received here... "The Electric Flag - An American Music Band." It would soon be shortened.

Bloomfield and Brooks carried the heavy pedigree of having worked on Bob Dylan's landmark Highway 61 Revisitedalbum in 1965. Bloomfield's vision was an electric rock band that leaned heavily on his love of blues, soul and R&B. The group was formed in San Francisco under the guidance of super-manager Albert Grossman. But the Electric Flag's promise was never fulfilled and by the end of 1968 they had disbanded.
