Description

Wonder Woman (Warner Bros. TV, 1975-1979), Lynda Carter "Wonder Woman" Bracelets of Submission. Vintage original pair of Wonder Woman's (Lynda Carter) Bracelets of Submission from Season 1 of the television series bearing her name, constructed of lightweight metal sculpted into the shape of a bangle/cuff and painted over in a silver-tone with (6) red-painted stars to each cuff, displayed as 1- large star and 5- smaller surrounding stars, with small nail heads to center of each star for dimensionality. According to William Moulton Martson, who created the original comic book character, the Bracelets of Submission symbolize the former enslavement of Wonder Woman's ancestral Amazonians and function as an allegory for women across the world who had been bound at the wrists by men before realizing their own power and breaking free. In practical terms, the bracelets functioned as a protective shield that allowed Wonder Woman to deflect gunfire, energy blasts, arrows, and other projectile weaponry from the many foes she encounters throughout the series. The television series helped make both Wonder Woman and Lynda Carter household names and brought a distinctly feminist lens to network television. This specific pair is from Season 1 before their design was altered for the subsequent two seasons of the show. Both bracelets measure approx. 3" x 3.5" and interiors shows signs of glue residue used to flatten the nail ends. Other expected signs of production wear and age present including scuffs and scratches, chipping to paint, and bending to the metal. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
