Gilligan's Island (CBS TV, 1964-1967), Bob Denver "Gilligan" Signature Red Rugby Shirt....
Description
Gilligan's Island (CBS TV, 1964-1967), Bob Denver "Gilligan" Signature Red Rugby Shirt. Of all the shipwrecked souls to ever inhabit the screen, big or small, Bob Denver's turn as the kind-hearted, bumbling Gilligan is the most well-known and, arguably, most beloved. And when you're marooned on an uncharted island with only the clothes on your back, you don't have much of a choice when it comes to anything - let alone wardrobe selection. And so it was with a precise vision in mind that the costume designers behind the series dressed Bob Denver in what would become his signature outfit, capturing his Naval background and his boyish, hapless demeanor all in one simple ensemble, creating an image that would remain instantly recognizable for decades to come, perhaps the single most recognizable character ensemble of the '60s sitcom era.Presented here is Gilligan's signature vintage original rugby shirt, as seen worn throughout the series' 98-episode run, consisting of a cherry red heavy long-sleeved jersey cotton with ivory-colored denim collar and 3- button closure. This shirt was confirmed by Denver as one he wore in the show, and as the only one he knew of to have survived production, making this an exceptionally rare artifact of television history.
Exhibiting production wear and age including some staining to the collar, however presenting extremely well with rich color throughout the shirt. For display purposes, the lot is accompanied by a pair of Wrangler brand stretchy bell bottom jeans evocative of Gilligan's signature style, signed in black felt tip "S.O.S.! / Bob Denver / "Gilligan", along with a pair of white canvas shoes, white socks, and a wig to complete Gilligan's look. Provenance: Profiles in History, "Hollywood: A Collector's Ransom 6", June 26, 1999, Lot #351. Stewart took great pride in displaying his collection and had many custom-built mannequins in the likeness of the character made for his costumes. This lot includes one of those mannequins, which is in used and well-loved condition and will require special shipping. The option is yours if you would like to receive the mannequin. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From The Stewart Berkowitz Television Treasures Collection.
