Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Mike Mignola - "Tomb in Hellboy Junior Room" Concept Sketch Original Art.
Description
Hellboy (Columbia, 2004), Mike Mignola - "Tomb in Hellboy Junior Room" Concept Sketch Original Art. Concept sketch of the central sarcophagus in the "Hellboy Junior Room," drawn by Hellboy creator and master horror artist Mike Mignola. This detailed sketch presents both overhead and side views of the stone effigy, depicted as a carved monk holding a horn, with a stone cat at his feet (labeled "Stone cat" by the artist), presumably set to watch over his soul. The side view shows a cracked structure adorned with angels holding an encircled cross. In the background, the faint outline of what appears to be baby Hellboy is visible, with Mignola sketching only the barest suggestion of his distinctive form through minimal exterior linework-complete with his signature oversized right hand. This central feature can be seen in the flashback episode of Hellboy, when Professor Trevor Bruttenholm (Kevin Trainor) first discovers the baby demon lurking in this crypt. Dated 7/17/02 and signed by the artist at the bottom right of the sarcophagus, Mignola labels the piece "Tomb in Hellboy Junior Room. In front of Hell Wall." Executed in ink over graphite, with blue, yellow, and gray colored pencil highlights on the coffin. Image area measures 8.5" x 7.5". The verso is marked in graphite with "BHS.MM13.717 Scanned July 27.02". Exhibits light handling with 1-folded piece of scotch tape on the upper left corner. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
