Description

Gordon Lightfoot's 1946 Gibson J-45 Sunburst Acoustic Guitar, Serial #2315.
This 1946 Gibson J-45 Sunburst Acoustic Guitar, Serial #2315, was personally owned by Canadian folk legend Gordon Lightfoot. Built during Gibson's esteemed "Banner era," this J-45 features a mahogany top paired with traditional tonewoods. The guitar has undergone notable, non-professional repairs, including a lifting bridge and a large internal rosewood patch beneath the bridge area. These modifications significantly impact the structural integrity and require professional attention. COA from Heritage Auctions included.
Soft case included. Condition: Poor.

This J-45 holds immense historical and musical value as it belonged to one of the most influential singer-songwriters of the 20th century. Gordon Lightfoot's contributions to folk music and his iconic songs such as If You Could Read My Mind and The Wreck of the Edmund Fitzgerald have left a lasting impact on generations of listeners and artists. Instruments owned by Lightfoot are rare, and this 1946 Gibson J-45 represents a tangible connection to his legacy. Though in need of restoration, its provenance makes it a desirable piece for collectors, museums, and fans seeking to preserve a part of North American folk music history.
