Description
circa 1936 Gibson L-5 Natural Archtop Acoustic Guitar, Serial #93009.This is a rare and unusual Gibson L-5 Archtop Acoustic Guitar in Natural finish from the late 1930s transition period. The guitar features a 17" body and appears to have undergone an older factory-style refinish, likely dating from around 1939-1940. It has been refretted with small frets, and the fingerboard inlays-now appearing as ebony squares with white borders-may have been altered or removed during that process. These inlays resemble the style used on the rare "Black Special" L-5s of the same era. The pickguard is a modern replacement, and the tailpiece has been modified-reportedly by renowned luthier Jimmy D'Aquisto.
The guitar remains structurally sound and free of cracks or breaks, with typical finish checking, minor nicks, and light scratches throughout. A small moisture blemish and possible touch-up are present on the back of the headstock at the treble-side upper corner. The tuners are 1940s-era gold Klusons. Includes its original 1930s tweed/striped hard case.
Original hard case included. Condition: Good.
