AN IMPORTANT COLLECTION DETAILING MANY PERFORMANCES FROM THE ROLLING STONES' MOST ACTIVE TOURING YEARS

Collection of Rolling Stones Early Performance Contracts, Hiring Agreements, and Emergency Contracts (1963-1965). A large and important archive collection of (40+) vintage contracts and printed documents for Rolling Stones live performances, the vast majority for UK shows, including performance contracts, emergency contracts, hiring forms, support act contracts and associated material. The compiled documents for the Rolling Stones or their support acts, covering many dates across a highly productive period in the Stones' touring career, ranging from Summer 1963 to Summer 1965. The collection contains documents from Bill Wyman's own Rolling Stones archive including: (1) Bill Wyman's personal Eric Easton Ltd. photostat file copy of a performance emergency contract between the Rolling Stones Ltd and the Richmond National Jazz Festival, dated July 22, 1964, measuring 8.5" x 11", outlining the terms of the Stones appearance on August 7, 1964. The Rolling Stones' second appearance at that festival, Eric Easton improved the band's terms to the point that they were to be billed as headliners and paid half of all ticket receipts. Provenance: Property from Bill Wyman and his Rolling Stones Archive, September 11-14, 2020, Lot 102; (1) Bill Wyman's 1-page emergency contract on Eric Easton Ltd letterheaded paper measuring 8" x 10", dated August 9, 1965, between promoter John Smith and Rolling Stones Limited ("to present the Rolling Stones"), for performances at the ABC Theaters in Dublin and Belfast on September 3 & 4, 1965, two dates which made up the Stones' second Irish tour of 1965. (5) 1-page emergency contracts on Eric Easton Ltd letterheaded paper, dated December 30-31, 1964, for the Rolling Stones' support acts Marianne Faithfull ("with guitarist"), Zoot Money's Big Roll Band; The Quiet Five, Tony Jackson and the Vibrations, and Julie Grant. Each act was engaged to perform twice on January 10, 1965 at the Commodore Theatre in Hammersmith, London; (1) hiring agreement between the Rolling Stones Limited and Catlin's Scarborough Entertainments Limited, for the Futurist Theatre on March 8, 1965. Provenance: Christie's, London, April 26, 2007, Lot 71 (part); (1) photocopy performance contract dated February 18, 1965, for the Southern College Auditorium in Statesboro, Georgia, US, on May 4, 1965; (3) Rolling Stones support act contracts for shows in March 1965, including (1) double-sided emergency contract for The Original Checkmates, (1) double-sided emergency contract on Eric Easton Ltd letterheaded paper for The Hollies, and (1) single-sided printed copy of an emergency contract for The Symbols; (1) 1-page emergency contract on Eric Easton Ltd letterheaded paper, dated May 26, 1965, unsigned, for Baltiske Hall in Malmo, Sweden on June 29, 1965; (1) Group of documents for the Rolling Stones and Support Act Dave Berry & the Cruisers, including box office returns documents relating to Stones' performances across Scotland, UK in 1965. Including (1) emergency contract on Eric Easton Ltd letterheaded paper, dated February 3, 1965 for Dave Berry & the Cruisers; correspondence to Eric Easton from local filmmaker Alan Mackenzie requesting permission to film the Stones during their June 1965 tour of Scotland; and typed box office receipt pages detailing results for the June 1965 tour of Scotland and breakdowns for each of the 4 venues; (1) 4-page agreement dated July 14, 1965, for the Odeon Exeter and the Gaumont Bournemouth on July 16 and 18, 1965. Provenance: Christie's London, May 5, 2004, Lot 77 (Part); and (1) City of Birmingham Estates Department letterheaded document, advertising that the Town Hall was available as a concert venue. The brochure for the venue with charges and application forms. Despite the venue's high hopes for "the business which you can expect for the Rolling Stones," the offer was never accepted and the Stones instead appeared at the city's Odeon Theater on October 14, 1965; and (1) 1-page emergency contract on Eric Easton Ltd letterheaded paper, dated June 29, 1965, confirming John Mayall's Blues Breakers as a support act for the Rolling Stones at the Gaumont Bournemouth on July 18, 1965.
The majority measuring approx. 8" x 10" or 8" or 13". The pages in varying condition, including handling creasing, light toning, hole punches, annotations, and light staining, nicks or tears to the paper. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
