Description

The Spirit of St. Louis (Warner Bros., 1957), Screen-Matched Map Used to Chart Lindbergh's Path Across the Atlantic Signed by James Stewart and Charles Lindbergh. Vintage original map displaying a section of the northern Atlantic ocean marked with the arc of a flightpath in felt-tip marker and several dots on various coastal cities on either side. The section of map that contains the handwritten flightpath has been cut down to size and mounted to pegboard, measuring 53.5" x 12.5", and contains inscriptions in ink from both Stewart and Lindbergh, with 1-reading, "To David Goldman / Best Wishes, Charles A. Lindbergh Feb 1956" and 1-reading, "To David - Jimmy Stewart". This map is shown in the film during Lindbergh's (James Stewart) storied flight over the Atlantic. Notably, as the real Lindbergh was the technical advisor on the film, the close-up shot that shows this map actually features Lindbergh's hand instead of Stewart's. The film takes its name from the single-engine monoplane flown by Lindbergh from New York and over the Atlantic to Paris over the course of 33 hours from May 20-21, 1927. Exhibits signs of use, wear, and age, including foxing and stiffening to paper with signs of stains, edge tears, and inscriptions faded from exposure over time. Full LOA from Beckett Authentication Services.
