Description

JERRY GARCIA, PETE TOWNSHEND, BOB WEIR & JOHN FOGERTY PROVIDING THE SOUNDTRACK

BG-133 Grateful Dead, The Who 1968 Fillmore West Concert Poster Graded 9.8. First-printing San Francisco concert poster advertising four sets of concerts in August 1968 at Bill Graham's newly opened Fillmore West Auditorium at Market and Van Ness streets. It's tough to top a poster with both the Grateful Dead and The Who holding down the fort. And this was designed by two of S.F.'s finest poster artists, Rick Griffin and Alton Kelley. Nicknamed "Bloom", this poster was graded a bloomin' great 9.8 Near Mint/Mint by CGC (the Certified Guaranty Company) - Heritage's first-ever 9.8 on this key title.

One of the all-time most popular Fillmore West concert posters in the Bill Graham series due to its commanding size, amazing colors, beautiful artwork, the involvement of two legendary S.F. poster artists, and the presence of both The Who and the Grateful Dead, perfectly placed at the top of their respective columns. Other musicians playing the concerts included Creedence Clearwater Revival (with only their debut album out so far), Quicksilver Messenger Service (ditto), It's a Beautiful Day, James Cotton, Albert Collins, Spooky Tooth and Cold Blood. Measures 28 ½" x 22". From the David Swartz Concert Poster Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions.
