Sears Exclusive Batman Playset in Original Box (Ideal, 1966). In 1966, the Sears offered this rarely-seen complete, 23 piece exclusive Batman playset available to purchase through their catalog. This auction contains all 23 parts as originally advertised as well as the paper cape instructions and original cardboard box marked as the "M. O. Sears #59897 Dept. 49 Batman Play Set". The set contains the Sanctuary mountain, Batmobile, Batplane, 10 vacuformed plastic set pieces, Batman, Robin, Radar Dish, Robot, and 6 villain figures. The vacuformed pieces are exclusive to this set as are the all-gray versions of Batman and Robin. The Sanctuary mountain piece did not come with the yellow periscope and weathervane that came with the JLA set and the radar dish is gray instead of the red version that came with that set. The large robot also uses the opposite color scheme with a silver front, red back, and red arms and legs. The original cardboard box is heavy and solid but shows dark discoloration from age and dust. The set is in excellent condition with all parts. The mountain, Batmobile, and Batplane are very clean and look to be unused. There are some cracks on the edges of some of the vacuform pieces as is common since they are made from thin plastic. The cape instruction paper is untorn and just lightly faded.
