The Ten Commandments (Paramount, 1956), Prop Golden Calf Idol. When Moses (Charlton Heston) is delayed on Mount Sinai receiving the Ten Commandments, the Israelites begin to lose faith and grow restless. Dathan (Edward G. Robinson), the devious overseer, takes advantage of this opportunity claiming Moses is dead and urges the mob to create a golden calf as an idol of worship. During this sequence, a small version of the golden calf is handed to Dathan which he brandishes to the crowd. This leads to the Israelites crafting a large version of the idol which is seen in the pivotal "orgy scene" at the base of the mountain when Moses finds his people having transgressed into idolatry. This stylized golden calf features a disc on its head flanked by two serpents. Crafted of fiberglass and resin, the idol measures 11" x 10" x 4". This golden calf appears in the comprehensive book Cecil B. DeMille: The Art of the Hollywood Epic. Exhibits age with paint touch up to areas of loss to the faux gold finish and repair to attachment point of disc headdress. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions.
