Description

Diana Ross & The Supremes 1969 San Diego, CA Concert Poster. An original cardboard window card advertising Diana Ross & the Supremes in concert at the Sports Arena in San Diego, California on Sunday evening, August 17, 1969. Support acts were Edwin Starr and the Edwin Hawkins Singers.

This was the end of the line for Ms. Ross with the group she co-founded, as she would soon depart for a solo career. But they ended with a bang: 1969 started off with the Top 10 pop hit "I'm Livin' in Shame" and ended with the #1 smash swan song, "Someday We'll Be Together." Measures 14" x 22" and grades to Very Good Plus condition. COA from Heritage Auctions.

More Information: Edwin Starr had enjoyed the Top 10 pop hit "Twenty-Five Miles" earlier this year, and would enjoy the #1 "War" the following year. And the Edwin Hawkins Singers will always be known and loved for "Oh Happy Day," a Top 5 smash from the spring.

This Colby-made poster features a textbook example of the "split fountain" printing effect, with the background yellow morphing to orange segueing into blue.

Condition details: Poster is fully intact, in excellent shape with no restoration. There's a bit of very light water staining on the left edge, above the "D" in "Diana," to the left of "with special" and to the left of "the North Park." The upper right corner has been dinged with a couple of creases, but they all stay inside the white margin (although closing skirting the yellow, but not intruding). There's a bit of imperfection in the printing, such as in the right edge of the group's photo (plus light orange residue in the white margin) and around "8:30 PM," but we believe those to be printer's flaws, not damage. Bottom two corners have been lightly bumped.
