Description

Doctor Who (BBC TV, 1963-1989), A "TARDIS" from the Fan-Made Series "Devious" Starring Jon Pertwee "The Third Doctor" (ca. 1990s). Original fan-made TARDIS police box from the "Devious" serials which began in the 1990s, used by the Third Doctor (Jon Pertwee) in what is believed to be his final filmed appearance using a TARDIS, before his passing in 1996. Measuring approx. 98.5" x 45.25" x 45.25" overall when assembled, the TARDIS is constructed from four wooden side panels, a floor panel, and an angled roof with glass police light. The panels finished in blue paint, with window mesh details. Once assembled, each side panel with "POLICE PUBLIC CALL BOX" along the top edge. The front panel with two opening doors and door handles, with a box to one door with sign bearing "Police Telephone" public notice. Together with a key with Doctor Who-brand TARDIS keyring from ca. 1999, photographed with the Third Doctor and the Seventh Doctor (Sylvester McCoy) at a 1990s convention. "Devious" is an ambitious amateur serial production which began in the 1990s during the 'wilderness years' of Doctor Who. While books, comics, and audiobooks continued the legacy of the show, it was in the midst of a 16-year hiatus of regular Doctor Who on the BBC (apart from the 1996 TV Movie starring Paul McGann as the Eighth Doctor). The narrative was set in the ambiguous period between the Second Doctor's (Patrick Troughton) forced regeneration by the Time Lords, and the beginning of the Third Doctor's era with "Spearhead from Space". Much of the serial follows a mysterious 'Second-and-a-Half" Doctor (Tony Garner). "Devious" saw official recognition by the BBC as a bonus feature on the DVD release of "The War Games". Pertwee was on set for photo opportunities and to recreate his very first moment as the Third Doctor, stepping out and collapsing onto the ground as he left the TARDIS. The present TARDIS is therefore an important artefact from a challenging but highly creative period in the history of Doctor Who, when talented fans, and original cast and crew could band together and keep the legacy of the enduring Sci-Fi show alive. Other known photographs show set visitors from across Doctor Who's illustrious history including Jon Pertwee "Third Doctor", Elizabeth Sladen "Sarah Jane Smith", and Sylvester McCoy "Seventh Doctor" for a 2004 promotional video set at Arundel Castle. Exhibits production wear consistent with age and outdoor use. The TARDIS can be disassembled into flat sides and the pointed roof for transport. This Lot is located in London, England, and special shipping arrangements via third party shipper will apply. Comes with a COA from Heritage Auctions. From the Collection of The Time Machine Museum of Science Fiction, Bromyard, UK.
