Description
Doctor Who (BBC TV, 1963-1989), "L1 Tracker Service Robot" from Season 23 "The Trial of a Time Lord" Serial "The Mysterious Planet". Original robot from the early episodes of the season-long serial "The Trial of a Time Lord", first broadcast on the BBC starting September 1986. Measuring 77" high, 77" x 57" x 41" overall, the angular metal body with interior control mechanisms and driver's seat, with working caterpillar tracks. The upper section composed of wood, metal, and plastic components, with rear door for operational access. The L1 tracker service robot was a device used by a maintenance robot known as Drathro "The Immortal", in an attempt to track the movements of the Sixth Doctor (Colin Baker) and his companion Peri (Nicola Bryant) on the planet Ravolox. It is later revealed that the planet is in fact Earth in the distant future, and the Doctor is put on trial by his fellow Time Lords for meddling in the planet's timeline. In addition to its appearance in the episode, the imposing L1 robot is pictured on set with the principal actors Colin Baker and Nicola Bryant. At the end of Part Two of "The Mysterious Planet", the L1 finally catches up with the Doctor, who marks the episode's cliffhanger with the exclamation "I really think this could be the end!". Heritage is proud to present over 75 remarkable lots from The Time Machine Museum of Science Fiction. Founded in 2007 and located in Bromyard, the UK museum was one of Herefordshire's hidden gems and represents the Glazzard family's decades-long dedication to preserving and promoting the history of Science Fiction.
A centerpiece of the collection is its peerless Doctor Who archive – over 85% of the museum's holdings - including production-used props and costumes from both the Classic and New eras of the long-running TV show. Iconic villains such as Daleks, Cybermen, and Silurians are represented, in addition to the world's only known Mechanoid commissioned by the BBC for exhibition use.
Beyond Doctor Who, the collection features production-used and related pieces from other landmark franchises, including Star Wars, Star Trek: Voyager, and Red Dwarf - with standout items like an original flying model of Starbug and an original Kryten costume worn by Robert Llewellyn in Season 8.
Before settling in Bromyard, many of these artifacts toured the UK with important Doctor Who exhibitions in Blackpool, Longleat, Llangollen, and Cardiff.
This auction offers a rare opportunity to own a piece of Science Fiction history - each item a testament to the Glazzard family's passion and lifetime of collecting.
